Frequently Asked Questions

How do I Listen to services online?

If you have WindowsMedia player 9 or later installed, or RealAudio 10 or later installed, the service should automatically play when you have selected the correct link. If you are having difficulties check your soundcard and volume settings, you can also try the alternative format (RealPlayer) if you were originally trying the windows media link.

Why can I not listen to the live stream but I can listen to other services online?

The live stream is a streamed MP3 or streamed AAC+ which will not play in Windows Media Player until the plug-in from Orban has been installed. You can normally also listen using RealPlayer, though it depends on the version of RealPlayer you have installed.

How do I obtain the players

The Windows Media Plugin for the high quality stream is available at www.orban.com/plugin/

RealPlayer Basic (Free RealPlayer) can be obtained from www.real.com. For most people this is the only file you need to download

Winamp Player 5.23 Basic (or later) can be obtained from www.winamp.com

Can I download the service?

The way we make downloadable audio is via the podcast. In order to use podcast you do not necessarily need to have an iPod. You can download and install iTunes free of charge, and can use iTunes to download and play the audio via your computer.

How do I listen to the live service using another player

The direct URLs which you will need are: http://webcast.whitewell.com:8002/ for the AAC stream, or http://webcast.whitewell.com:8000/ for the MP3 stream. Note that these are liable to change.

Why do I need to install a Plug-in to listen to the service

We stream the service using a technology called AACPlus. This gives a better quality sound without needing a faster connection to the internet. A clean install of windows media player does not have the necessary codecs to play aacPlus files. The plug-in is simply the AACPlus codec. The supplier claims it to have no embedded spyware or other software, and we have been using it for some time here and have had no problems with it.

I can't get the windowsmedia plug-in from orban to work

We have found in some installations that if you install the AAC plug-in as one user and then try to run it as a different user, the plug-in can fail. Try re-installing the plug-in as the same windows user who will be listening to the live stream
